Bonhams noted that the original Jaguar, owned by the late Diana Spencer, was unusual as the model was never designed to be a convertible.
The sporty coupe had to be modified by another company, featuring roof panels that were stored in the boot and a roll hoop for additional strength.
Upon delivery to Princess Diana in 1987, the car gained public attention, with Jaguar building 5,013 XJ-S Convertibles before withdrawing the model the following year.
However, whilst the Jaguar being actioned by Bonhams is incredibly accurate to the original, the spokesperson highlighted that not everything is the same.
They added: “Diana’s own XJ-S Cabriolet was the V12-engined version, whereas this car has the considerably more economical 3.6-litre inline six under the bonnet.
“As per the original ‘Diana’ car, it also has the US-specification headlights and rear seats, the latter were installed in Diana’s example for the young Princes William and Harry.”
The Jaguar is expected to fetch between £15,000 and £20,000 when it goes under the hammer at Bonham’s auction house in New Bond Street, London on February 7 2024.
As with the rest of the items being auctioned from The Crown, proceeds will go to the Left Bank Pictures – The Crown Scholarship programme at the National Film and Television School.
Other items being auctioned from the collection include the only recreation of The Gold State Coach, which is estimated to be sold for between £30,000 and £50,000, and a replica of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation ceremonial garments, estimated at £20,000 to £30,000.
