The first time you really saw Prince William and Princess Kate's new anniversary picture

Royal fans were treated to a never-before seen glimpse of Prince William and Princess Kate’s wedding day after the couple released a photo to mark their 13th wedding anniversary.

That’s what everyone initially thought. But the black-and-white snap, showing Prince William clutching Kate’s waist has actually been seen by the public before.

Photographer Millie Pilkington’s timeless image was actually in the background of a Facetime call between Prince William and Lady Gaga in 2017. In a clip released back in April 2017, the royal and popstar were chatting about mental health and why it was important to shatter the stigma about discussions involving the illness.

Prince William was sat at his desk in Kensington Palace on his laptop, while Lady Gaga can be seen in the kitchen in Los Angeles.

On the desk is a collection of framed photographs, and one of the images is the photo of Kate wearing her stunning wedding dress and tiara and clutching her wedding bouquet, with William standing beside her with his hands on his new bride.

The pair discussed a series of films which were released as part of the Heads Together #oktosay campaign in which people from all walks of life discuss their mental health challenges.

At the time, Lady Gaga said: “We have to make the strongest, most relentless attempt we can to normalise mental health issues.”

Their partnership came after William asked the pop star to be part of the Heads Together campaign following her open letter through her Born This Way Foundation last year in which she revealed she lives with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after being raped when she was 19-years-old.

Heads Together is a campaign co-ordinated by The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales and the campaign began in May 2016. The campaign unites 8 mental health charities, including Mind.

The photo shared with the public on April 29, was marked with the caption “13 years ago today!”.

The photograph was taken by professional snapper Millie Pilkington, who has taken several of the couple’s family photographs over the years.

She also captured the recently released image of King Charles and Queen Camilla, which was shared to mark the news that the monarch would be returning to public-facing duties.

In the picture, taken inside Buckingham Palace, Kate is wearing her stunning wedding dress and tiara and clutching her wedding bouquet. William stands beside her with his hands on her new bride. The couple are both beaming with happiness.

The release of the picture comes over a month after Kate, 42, revealed she had cancer. In her video message she told how her diagnosis had come as a huge shock and that she and William “have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family”.
