Prince William issued a warning to his younger brother Prince Harry over his relationship with Meghan Markle.
Prince Harry found love with the American actress in 2016 before getting married in a lavish ceremony in Windsor in 2018.
But in the early days of their relationship, his brother issued a stark warning, leaving the prince “a bit hurt”, according to his autobiography Spare.
When he told Prince William and his sister-in-law Kate about his newfound love, William allegedly said: “She’s an American actress, after all, Harold. Anything might happen.”
The two couples first met altogether when Harry invited the Cambridges over for dinner at Nottingham Cottage, his former home in the grounds of Kensington Palace.
According to Spare, things went well, and the coupe chatted about Meghan’s career in legal drama Suits.
But Meghan later took aim at the couple in their Harry & Meghan Netflix documentary.
Meghan said she was surprised by how formal William and Kate were when they met for dinner, having not dressed up for the occasion.
“When Will and Kate came over, and I met her for the first time, they came over for dinner, I remember I was in ripped jeans and I was barefoot.
“I was a hugger. I’ve always been a hugger, I didn’t realise that that is really jarring for a lot of Brits.
“I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside.
“There is a forward-facing way of being, and then you close the door and go ‘You can relax now’, but that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me.”
The Sussexes eventually broke away from the Royal Family after announcing their intention to step down as working royals in March 2020.
