Prince Harry's 30-minute reunion with King Charles 'more than enough' to repair bond

“He could have done five hours or could have done 45 minutes; it is just the fact he is with him. You could say a lot and rekindle that bond just by being together.”

Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers revealed that Prince Harry wanted to visit his father sooner but had to wait until the news was out, due to his visit likely causing a “frenzy”.

He said: “Charles had phoned his siblings and children personally to tell them. Harry wanted to come over straight away, but he agreed to give it a few days until the public statement went out.

“Because you can imagine the frenzy… ‘Why is Harry here?’ So I think he had to hold off to just come and see his own father.”

Myers also added that the King’s cancer treatment was “going to be less invasive”.

He said: “That’s what we understand, it’s not necessarily going to be a big blast of chemo. We do not know what treatment the King is having.

“They have described it as a form of cancer, and I think that was quite clever because by creating this broad church he puts his arm around everyone who’s suffering from cancer.”

The King has been undergoing unspecified treatment as an out-patient. Some have even suspected that he may also use “alternative medicine” with journalist Tom Bower saying Charles is “a great believer in natural herbs and potions”.

For the time being, the Prince of Wales and the Queen will be taking on the main public-facing duties with the King continuing with his stately duties such as reading daily red boxes and holding his weekly meeting with Rishi Sunak.
