Prince Harry or Meghan Markle could write 'Spare sequel' Buckingham Palace fears

Buckingham Palace is privately afraid Prince Harry – or Meghan Markle – will write another tell-all book after Spare was released just over a year ago, a Royal Family author has claimed.

Spare focused primarily on Prince Harry’s life before his 2018 wedding to Meghan, something which “did not go unnoticed,” according to a new biography of King Charles by Robert Hardman.

In The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy, Mr Hardman claims that Palace aides feared what they called “headwinds…from across the Atlantic”.

According to Mail Online, he wrote: “For the Palace, the most worrying aspect of the book was the omission of large chunks of more recent events.

“It did not go unnoticed that Harry and Meghan’s wedding, their married life and their eventual departure from the royal world amounted to a small part – less than a fifth – of Prince Harry’s memoir. This suggested either a sequel or, perhaps a memoir by Meghan in due course.”

Previously, the Sussexes’ team had denied that Spare was part of a multibook deal.

However, Prince Harry previously told The Telegraph that he had the material to write another book and that he withheld some details which King Charles and Prince William would never forgive him for if they were released.

The Duke said: “It was 800 pages, and now it’s down to 400 pages. It could have been two books, put it that way, and the hard bit was taking things out.

“There are some things that have happened, especially between me and my brother, and to some extent between me and my father, that I just don’t want the world to know. Because I don’t think they would ever forgive me.”

Spare made allegations against several senior members of the Royal Family and sparked some public backlash – the 416-page tome gave a never-before-seen insight into the Duke of Sussex’s life.

Since its release, Meghan and Harry have not engaged in any more projects surrounding the Firm and royal watchers have been watching closely to see what the couple has in store for 2024.
