UK cold weather: Exact date freezing 0C temperatures hit hours after 20C sizzler

Temperatures are set to plummet to a bone-chilling 0C in parts of the UK later this month, just a few hours after a 20C scorcher, according to shocking new weather maps.

A UK weather map generated by WX Charts for Thursday, May 16 at midnight, shows that parts of the Scottish Highlands will be hit by icy 0C temperatures. In Scotland’s central belt, the mercury will dip to 1C in Stirling, 3C in Edinburgh and 4C in Newcastle.

Further south, it will be slightly warmer – with temperatures of up to 7C in Wales and the south west of England, 8C in London and 9C in the Midlands.

Less than 48 hours earlier at 12noon on Tuesday, May 14, UK weather maps turn bright yellow, indicating warmer temperatures as forecasters predicter temperatures in Britain to be higher than average for this time of year.

The chart shows that temperatures could reach up to 20C in Inverness, Scotland, while it will be a scorching 19C in Edinburgh, with highs of 15C in London, Wales and the south west.

The Met Office’s long range forecast for the period between Tuesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 16 reads: “As we move into next week, the chance of rain and showers reduces as high pressure builds to the into the UK.

It continues: “This will bring more in the way of dry and fine weather for most areas, although there is still a chance of some showers in places, and a risk also of some more persistent rain rounding the high into north-western parts of the country.

“The high is likely to maintain influence into the weekend before starting to weaken the following week. So a continuation of fine conditions next weekend seems likely, before a return of less settled conditions by the end of the period.

“Temperatures are expected to be slightly above normal for early May.”
