Prince George to stop flying with family after years of Kate and William toeing line

This is to avoid the unlikely but possible scenario of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle becoming King and Queen if something tragic were to happen while the Wales’ are travelling together.

Cosmopolitan reports that while we’ve often seen William, Kate, George, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five, travel together, this may not be allowed to continue.

According to an old tradition set by the late Queen, Prince William and his son George can’t travel together for safety.

Former royal pilot Graham Laurie revealed on Hello’s A Right Royal Podcast: “We flew all four, the Prince, the Princess, Prince William and Prince Harry, up until when Prince William was 12 years old.

“After that, he had to have a separate aircraft and we could only fly all four together when they were young with the written permission of Her Majesty.

“So, what we did in the end when William became 12, he would fly normally in a 125 from Northolt and we would fly the 146 or the Andover out with the other three on.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales are now expected to revive the royal rule when George turns 12 in July 2025 to ensure the line of succession is preserved in case of an accident.

The couple previously had to request the late Queen’s permission to travel around with their children, as was the case when they visited Australia with a nine-month-old George.

Buckingham Palace said at the time: “They [William and Kate] had to ask the Queen for permission [to bring Prince George on the tour], but she said yes.

“While there is no official rule on this, and royal heirs have travelled together in the past, it is something that the Queen has the final say on.”
