New UK weather maps show exact day polar blast dumps wall of snow as far south as London

Dramatic new UK weather maps show the exact day a polar blast dumps a wall of snow as far south as London and Southampton. The latest forecast shows weather charts turning blue and purple a week on Sunday, January 14 – signifying heavy snow and rainfall on that day.

Meanwhile separate maps showing UK temperatures that day have revealed that temperatures will plummet to as low as -6C in Scotland, while it will reach -5C in the north of England, with London and the south coast also experience freezing 0C temperatures.

The snow bomb will cover nearly the whole of the UK, as maps show the vast majority of the snowfall will be in the north of Scotland, with the areas of Abderdeen and Inverness being hit the hardest. Meanwhile a snow bomb covering nearly the entirety of the south of England will blast into the UK at midday on January 14. London, Cardiff and Southampton also see heavy snowfall, according to the latest maps and charts.

The predicted Polar blast comes less than a fortnight after Storm Henk, which has continued to wreak havoc up and down the country on Tuesday, with one woman tragically dying after being hit by a fallen tree as 94mph gusts continue to batter Britain.

Speaking to Express.co.uk on January 2, Jim Dale, the senior meteorological consultant at British Weather Services, said that after Storm Henk departs British shores the UK will become “colder and icier”.

He said frosts would begin to draw south after the storm subsides, with a “hint” that snowfall could intensify going “much further forward”. But Mr Dale stopped short of predicting a “Beast from the East” or “Troll from Trondheim”, as conditions would likely stay dry for parts of this period.

Brits will likely be left waiting for more substantial snow, which becomes more likely beyond January 10. The forecaster said that, beyond that date, east coast communities may receive some of the predicted significant snowfall due to hit Europe. He said: “The east of the country may catch some of what’s expected to impact central Europe prior to mid-month.

“Where it goes from there is anyone’s guess, but my best estimate is that we will eventually take in some of the white stuff.”

Maps from WXCharts show a bitter cold gripping the country from January 8, with temperatures dropping to 0C across the UK and below in Scotland.
