Empower Brands is recalling 469,000 of its PowerXL Self-Cleaning Juicers after dozens of injuries were reported, including severe cuts and ingestion of small particles, officials said.
The company has received 261 reports of the juicers rupturing during use, which led to 47 reports of injuries including severe cuts, stitches, bruises and people ingesting small particles that required medical attention, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a news release Thursday.
“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled PowerXL Self-Cleaning Juicers and contact Empower Brands to receive a full refund,” the CPSC said.
Walmart, BJ’s Wholesale Club, CVS, Kohl’s, Marshall’s, Target, T.J. Maxx and online stores including Amazon sold these juicers from September 2020 through August 2022.
Empower Brands is offering refunds to customers who have the juicers. Refunds will be issued as a prepaid virtual Visa card or a physical card, the company said.
Which juicers are being recalled?
The recall applies to the PowerXL Model SHL90-SC and model SHL96 Self-Cleaning Juicers.
“They are countertop, brushed stainless steel, self-cleaning juicers, with a built-in automatic shut-off system,” the CPSC said. “The PowerXL logo is located on the front of the juicer.”
The model numbers and UPC codes can be found on the bottom of the SHL96 model and on the back of the SHL90-SC juicer.
