Meghan Markle accused of believing royal life would be 'filled with untold wealth'

Meghan Markle has been accused of believing that life in the Royal Family “would be filled with endless deference and untold wealth”, causing her to abandon her previous projects.

Last month, the Duchess of Sussex soft-launched her new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, and commentators have been quick to draw comparisons with her old blog, The Tig.

Others have pointed out the “regal” aesthetic she’s adopted for the website and Instagram page, appearing to leverage her royal connections despite leaving the family in 2020 with Prince Harry.

Meghan shut down The Tig after engaged to Harry, as members of the Firm typically don’t run ventures like blogs and she needed to turn her attention to her new royal duties.

However, royal expert Tom Quinn argued she “abandoned” it because she thought marrying the prince would give her a life of “untold wealth” and she’d have no need to make money from The Tig.

He told The Mirror: “Meghan’s new brand, American Riviera Orchard, has already gained popularity with over half a million followers, but it’s essentially just a rebranding of The Tig.

“The brand she abandoned when she married Harry, thinking that life as a royal princess would be filled with endless deference and untold wealth.”

Meghan is reportedly already on the hunt for a CEO to head up American Riviera Orchard.

But Quinn claimed that she and Harry have been “reduced” to “astonishing” ventures such as the new lifestyle brand because they no longer reap the benefits of being part of the Royal Family.

He said: “We don’t yet know exactly what the new brand will be selling, but it’s astonishing that a Royal prince and his wife have been reduced to selling some of the things we have already been told they will be selling – marmalade, jams and even dog shampoo.”

The royal expert also said it shows the couple are bored and “uncomfortable” with their life in California, as they take up new ventures such as lifestyle brands because they don’t have “very much to do”.

Quinn concluded: “The new enterprise and Meghan’s widely publicised visit to the children’s home in Los Angeles are definitely linked and suggest that the couple are beginning to feel uncomfortable sitting around in Montecito with not very much to do.”
