Meghan Markle's 'sad' decision could leave Prince Harry 'lonely' during major event

Meghan Markle has been criticised for her “sad” choice to stay behind as Prince Harry prepares to return to the UK for a poignant event. The Duchess of Sussex will not accompany her husband when he attends a special service on May 8 to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, where he is set to give a reading at St Paul’s Cathedral.

Royal expert Charlotte Griffiths has expressed her disappointment at Meghan’s absence, suggesting that Harry will feel “so lonely” during the visit and branding the situation “so sad”. She also hinted that it appears unlikely any senior royals will stand with Harry during the ceremony.

There has been no official confirmation from the Sussexes or Buckingham Palace regarding any potential family meetings during Harry’s trip. However, Charlotte commented that the service dedicated to the Invictus Games would seem “very stark” if Harry were to attend alone.

In a conversation with GB News, Charlotte highlighted the significance of the venue, saying: “That’s where his parents got married. It’s going to be a very sombre and senior event.”

Princess Diana and then-Prince Charles tied the knot in 1981 but separated in 1992, finalising their divorce four years later.

Charlotte speculated that Harry would naturally desire the support of his spouse at such a significant location. “It’s a really important part of Harry’s soul and the kind of thing he’d want his wife, maybe even his kids by his side for,” she remarked.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Meghan will not be accompanying Harry to the UK, ending months of speculation. However, a spokesperson said that Meghan Markle would not be joining the Prince.

Despite missing out on the UK trip, Meghan will be joining her husband for a visit to Nigeria shortly after he departs from London. During their time there, the couple is expected to engage in cultural activities and meet with service members and their families

Meghan has made very few trips back to the UK since stepping down from Royal duties in 2020. She joined the Royal family to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee but hasn’t returned since attending the Queen’s funeral in September 2022.
