WW3 fears soar as US will 'imminently' move nukes to RAF to counter Russia threat

The US plans to move nuclear weapons to the UK for the first time in 15 years amid a growing threat to Europe from Russia following Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Pentagon contracts have revealed that the US military is planning to store the weapons at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, according to a report by The Telegraph.

“Unredacted documents on the US Department of Defence’s procurement database reveal plans for a ‘nuclear mission’ that will take place ‘imminently’ at RAF Lakenheath,” the report states.

The weapons will reportedly be B61-12 gravity bombs that can be launched from fighter jets.

A Ministry of Defence spokesperson told the outlet: “Ministry of Defence spokesperson said: “It remains a longstanding UK and NATO policy to neither confirm nor deny the presence of nuclear weapons at a given location.”

In December, EU leaders failed to agree on a four-year, $52 billion (£45.7bn) package of assistance for Ukraine. Hungary blocked the agreement, which requires unanimity from all 27 EU members.

The bloc is working, however, to find a way for the remaining 26 countries to come up with the money before an EU summit on February 1.

In Washington, senators are trying for a bipartisan deal that would include nearly $61 billion (£49.9bn) in aid for Ukraine and make changes to US border policy.

But Republicans are renewing a push to scale back the amount of assistance for Ukraine, targeting money that would go to Ukraine’s civil sector and arguing that European nations could step in to fund those needs.
