UK snow: New maps turn ominous dark purple as brutal 10-day -9C snow blast sweeps Britain

Forecasters have warned that Brits across the country could be in for freezing conditions and snowfall as February progresses, with temperatures dropping to as low as -9C.

From February 8 to 18, different areas of the UK are predicted to see at least a dusting, with freezing temperatures expected.

The forecasters at WX Charts show via their radars that on February 9 Britain will be covered in snow, with some areas like Staffordshire coloured darker purple, indicating some areas could see up to 30cm of snowfall.

Meanwhile on February 11 large swathes of Scotland as well as northern England are marked with dark purple spots, once again pointing to deeper snow.

It is essential to point out that the Met Office says reliable snow forecasts can only be made two days out from the date in question, as such longer range snow predictions should be followed with that in mind.

On February 12 Scotland, northern England, Wales and the Midlands, are all covered in shades of purple, suggesting varying degrees of snowfall. The heaviest once again appears to be set for Scotland.

Over this period, the temperature has the potential to be regularly below freezing. On February 9 in particular, the mercury is expected to be 0C in the south east, turning bitterly cold as you head north. In Edinburgh at 6am, the temperature may as low as -9C.

Meanwhile on February 4 and 5 there is a Met Office yellow weather warning in placeas torrential rain batters northern Scotland, urging residents to be wary of flooding and travel chaos.
