Trump prosecutor Jack Smith built reputation in corruption case of ex-lawmaker from Arizona


Before Jack Smith became the first prosecutor to indict a former president, he rebuilt the Justice Department’s reputation for toughness in public corruption cases, in part in a Tucson, Arizona, courtroom.

Smith ended the political career of former Rep. Rick Renzi, R-Ariz., in a case whose roots began under former President George W. Bush and whose coda only came the day before former President Donald Trump left office.
