Keeping the bathroom clean and tidy is a key chore to keep on top of, but it’s not always the easiest to do.
This is especially true if you live in an area with hard water, since the chalky mineral deposits known as limescale can wreak havoc on your bathroom – especially in the toilet.
Over time, these stains can build up, becoming difficult to remove and making the whole room look dirty and uncared for.
Bleach doesn’t always cut it, and instead can mask the discolouration whilst not actually cleaning the limescale off.
But thankfully, there’s a handy and affordable alternative that works much better – and you’ve probably already got it in your cupboards.
The tip was shared on TikTok by mum of three Sammy, who often shares helpful cleaning and organisational advice for busy families who want to stay on top of the housework.
She’s hailed her toilet cleaning method as one of the cleaning tips that ‘everybody’ should know, and it couldn’t be easier to do.
So, if you’ve noticed that limescale build-up in your toilet seems to be getting worse, all you’ll need to fix this issue is a simple dishwasher tablet.
Place one of these handy tablets in the toilet, followed by some warm water, and allow it to sit for about 15 minutes.
Then, grab a brush and start scrubbing at the limescale stains – and you should find that they quickly disappear within seconds. Once you’ve finished scrubbing, flush the toilet as normal, and it’ll be sparkling clean once again.
A pack of 40 dishwasher tablets from Asda costs £4, making each one work out at just 10p – so it’s a hugely affordable hack as well as a quick one.
However, Sammy appeared to use boiling water from the kettle to follow the dishwasher tablet, which people in the comments were quick to advise against.
Some said this could chip the porcelain of the toilet bowl and result in a costly repair.
To be on the safe side, warm water is best, and it’ll still be enough to help lift the limescale stains and leave your toilet looking brand new again.
