Tinned glazed carrot recipe is 'sweet and spicy' and cooks in three minutes from 15p

Glazed carrots make a delicious side dish either with your Sunday roast or as an accompaniment to your mid-week meal.

Carrots are also incredibly healthy, loaded with antioxidants, vitamin A, beta-carotene and other vitamins.

Unlike fresh carrots, tinned ones last longer, are cheaper and don’t need to be peeled which means they’re super quick and easy to prepare.

Bintu, the founder of Recipes from a Pantry, has shared her simple recipe for tinned glazed carrots which take “minutes” to cook.

She said: “This sweet and spicy brown sugar glazed carrots recipe is a delicious treat that only takes a few minutes to whip up.”

Bintu added: “Canned vegetables are shelf-stable, convenient, and affordable. Plus they cook quickly. And canned carrots have all the flavour of fresh carrots, so you can serve them, up anytime, without having to make a run to the market.”

The recipe can be cooked in three different ways – either in the oven, microwave or sautéd in the pan.

The below method is the sauté version which takes just two to three minutes on the hob.

How to make glazed tinned carrots:

Ingredients:

  • 850g tinned sliced carrots drained
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 pinch cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 pinch salt

Method:

1. Firstly, melt the butter in a saucepan over low to medium heat before adding the cinnamon and sugar.

2. Next, drain the carrots and add them to the saucepan making sure they are completely covered in the butter.

3. Sauté the carrots for two to three minutes until the carrots are cooked through and completely glazed.

4. Allow the carrots to cook for a few minutes before serving.

Tinned carrots are already cooked so home cooks need to be careful not to overcook the carrots so they turn mushy.

For extra flavour, fresh herbs like dill and nuts like chopped walnuts or pecans can be added to the carrots.

Tinned carrots can be bought from Waitrose & Partners for 15p or Sainsbury’s for 55p.
