Quick and healthy dessert recipe is ready in 15 minutes with crunchy cereal

Pears can be used in so many different desserts, the most common of which includes a blend of sweet and savoury flavours.

While cheese, honey and nuts are great flavours to pair with sweet pears, this quick recipe is a little different.

Shared by BBC Good Food, these honey nut crunch pears are “simple” to make as “a quick mid-week treat for all the family”.

Each serving contains just 179 calories and includes a delicious blend of honey, cornflakes, butter, nuts, and of course, juicy pears.

They require minimal cooking too, with just 15 minutes required to make them.

Method

First, preheat the oven to 200C/180 fan/gas 6, then cut the pears in half lengthways and remove the core.

Do this by digging a teaspoon into the flesh to scoop out the pips and any fibrous fragments.

Top the pears with a small knob of butter and a sprinkling of mixed spice, then transfer them to a shallow baking dish.

Roast in the hot oven for just five minutes, until the fruit starts to soften.

Meanwhile, take a microwave-safe bowl and heat the honey and another knob of butter together for 30 seconds.

Take care not to burn the butter or it will alter the flavour. When melted, stir in the cornflakes and nuts, if using.

Remove the pears from the oven and top with the cornflake mix, then cook for another five minutes, or until the cornflakes are golden in colour.

Allow the pears to cool for a few minutes – this will ensure the cornflakes crisp up again. Serve warm with ice cream.

For a Canadian twist, swap the honey for maple syrup and use pecans instead of almonds.
