Blackpool topped the list with a romance score of 73.34 out of 100. The city has 60 romantic hotels per 100,000 people, the sixth highest amount in the UK, the study found.

The average Booking.com rating for romantic hotels is 8.81, the third highest rating in the UK while the average star rating for the romantic hotels in Blackpool is 3.55, the third lowest in the country.

Moreover, Blackpool also ranks as the cheapest for cost per night, with the average price being £103.95 per night.

Preston is the second-best city in the UK for a romantic getaway, with an overall romance score of 71.20 out of 100. It has 65 romantic hotels per 100,000 people, the fourth highest amount in the UK.

The average Booking.com rating for the romantic hotels is 8.71, the fourth highest in the country and the average star rating for romantic hotels is 3.56.

Preston also ranks as the second cheapest UK destination for a romantic getaway, with one night costing an average of £105.54.

Bath, Wrexham and Chester completed the top five while Burnley was named the sixth best place in the UK for a romantic getaway, with an overall romance score of 61.81 out of 100.

It has 37 romantic hotels per 100,000 people, the eighth highest amount in the UK and an average Booking.com rating of 8.44, the 19th highest in the country.

The average star rating for the romantic hotels in Burnley is 3.83, the tenth highest in the UK. The town ranks as the 19th cheapest UK destination, with one night costing an average of £132.70.
