Steak recipe with 'deep and delicious' flavours cooks entirely in an air fryer

Steak pairs well with so many different flavours and ingredients, including traditional peppercorn or blue cheese sauce.

While both are easy to find readymade in supermarkets, those looking to impress with a home-cooked meal can make this crusted steak dish entirely from scratch.

Covered in a coffee crumb, the meat cooks exclusively in the air fryer which, according to Philips’ air fryer chef, Martin Senders, offers “quicker cooking times and takes the stress out of the kitchen without compromising taste”.

Sharing his recipe with Express.co.uk, he described the dish as “a classic romantic dish, elevated with a deep and delicious coffee rub”.

With just 10 minutes of preparation and an equal amount of cooking time required, it’s the perfect showstopper meal for a weekday evening.

Method

Start by making the flavoursome coating with a combination of all the dry ingredients – ground coffee, sugar, garlic, paprika, cayenne pepper and black pepper.

Place them all in a mixing bowl and stir well to combine. Next, take the steaks from the fridge and remove them from any packaging, placing them on a large plate.

Rub the dry mixture all over the meat to coat it. This will form the coffee crumb.

While any coffee grounds can be used, Martin’s top tip was to use leftover grounds from a coffee machine. Not only does it make use of what would otherwise be a waste product, but also adds a hint of moisture.

Once the steak has been coated, leave it to rest uncovered at room temperature for around 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, preheat the air fryer to 200C just five minutes before cooking the steaks. Cook the steaks for five minutes at this temperature then let the steaks sit for eight minutes inside the closed air fryer while still warn.

Carefully remove them from the basket, then slice into juicy strips and season with some salt before serving with a side of vegetables.
