The UK 'town' named 'the absolute worst' for potholes across the whole country

Barnet, a borough in London, has been named as the worst place for potholes across the entire country.

Potholes can be a real headache for drivers, causing everything from burst tyres to dangerous accidents. As of January 29, 2024, there are a whopping 4,656 reported potholes in Barnet, according to a new study by data collection experts at SmartSurvey.

They analysed reports of potholes registered via FixMyStreet.com for 69 cities across England, Scotland and Wales. On average, there are 12 potholes per 1,000 residents in Barnet, reports My London.

The ‘fix rate’ – how many marked potholes remain unfixed – in this North London borough is 32.6 percent, which is very low compared to other local authorities across the country.

Lewisham Council is easily the most responsive not just in London, but across all local authorities in cities across Britain. They fixed 98.45 percent of the reported potholes.

According to the data, Barnet is also significantly worse for potholes than anywhere else in London. The next worst borough is Richmond upon Thames, where only 2.6 potholes remain unfixed per 1,000 residents.

Barnet has been struggling with potholes for some time now. At the start of 2024, ‘huge potholes’ near the Dollis Valley estate stopped people from using their normal bus stops.
