Meghan Markle solves mystery of missing £140k engagement ring on Canada trip

The mystery behind Meghan Markle’s missing wedding ring has finally been solved as Meghan was spotted wearing the £140K engagement ring for the first time in nine months.

Crouching down on the snow in Whistler at the ‘One Year to Go’ event to celebrate the Invictus Games, the sparkling ring was clearly visible on her left hand, despite the cold.

Meghan has not been seen publicly wearing the ring since May 2023, and with the mystery swirling, fans were beginning to wonder what had happened to the significant piece of jewellery.

The ring comprises of one huge Botswana diamond and two diamonds from her mother-in-law, the late Princess Diana’s collection.

According to experts, it is a “trilogy” ring, boasting three diamonds, a larger one flanked by two smaller ones. Experts at We Love Diamonds said: “It is emphatically known that, in memory of his beloved mother, Harry always wanted to see that ring sat on the throne in one way, shape or form.”

Harry spent time in Botswana after the death of his mother and developed a real love for the country, even calling it a “second home”.

Due to his “intense affinity to Africa”, the central stone of the ring was a 3ct diamond sourced from Botswana. Prince Harry had designed the bespoke piece with the help of Cleave & Company, the late Queen Elizabeth’s regular jeweller, and it is estimated to be upwards of £120K.

Flanking the larger diamond are two smaller diamonds, around 1ct each, meaningfully selected from Diana’s personal collection. Overall the ring weighed in at around 12cts. While this is “not to be sniffed at” for non-royals, it actually “borders on the frugal” in royal circles, according to We Love Diamonds.

Prince Harry proposed to Meghan in November 2017, with the ring comprising of a solid yellow gold band set with three diamonds, but Meghan has since made several tweaks to the design since.

Meghan Markle chose to wear the engagement ring during the couple’s Valentine’s Day outing on the slopes in Canada.

During the event where the couple met coaches and competitors, Harry, 39, was given a demonstration of how to sit-ski while Meghan, 42, waited for him at the bottom of the slope.

The couple also donned beanie hats and snow boots, with Meghan wearing a quilted cream puffer coat, layering it with a matching ivory crew neck sweater – and fans have been “obsessing” over Meghan’s winter wardrobe.

Meghan’s ring has been conspicuously absent at recent events, such as the premiere of Bob Marley biopic One Love in Kingston, Jamaica last month.

During the start of the games this week, the Duchess’s stunning rock was the star of the outfit – instead of choosing to cover up her hands with a pair of gloves, she proudly displayed the ring on her finger.

The couple will meet more athletes at host locations for the 2025 games in Whistler and Vancouver. Winter sports such as alpine skiing, snowboarding and wheelchair curling will also be part of the competition for the first time.

The duke founded the games in 2014 for injured and sick military personnel and veterans and to help their recovery.
