The beautiful seaside town with barely any tourists as it doesn’t have a train station

Hidden away in Italy’s stunning Liguria region visitors to Lerici are treated to captivating sea views, pristine beaches, and vibrant architecture.

Lerici is located 100 kilometres south of Genoa. However, compared to neighbouring destinations, its location, particularly the lack of a train station, has provided some protection against overtourism.

Known as the capital of the “Gulf of Poets,” Lerici plays host to a variety of cultural and artistic events.

These include the Lerici Music Festival, the Premio Lerici Pea Golfo dei Poeti literary competition, and regular art exhibitions held at its medieval castle.

Lerici has a long seafront that stretches for 1.5 miles from its castle to the neighbouring village of San Terenzo.

There is also a large waterside piazza with restaurants, bars, and gelaterias, providing an ideal vantage point for watching the sunset.

The expansive Lerici coastline, with its numerous sandy beaches, appeals not only to sunbathers but also to those interested in a variety of water sports.

Meanwhile hikers, bikers and trekkers flock to the surrounding hills from spring to autumn.

A review left on TripAdvisor said: “Beautiful city to work around looking at the houses, the architecture and the surrounding. Take a site at a cafe and enjoy the life around you – wow.”

Another recommended: “The square in Lerici is prefect for strolling in the evening and is peppered with nice eateries and bars. You can look out to sea and watch the sun set over the islands and headland.”

Someone else reported: “Lerici is a beautiful Italian town at the beginning of the Riviera. The restaurants, bars and cafes are friendly and the food is good. The speciality is sea food although most restaurants do meat and vegetarian. The peak months are July and August for outside entertainment as there is live music somewhere every night.

“You can walk along a promenade to the next town of San Terenzo which is also beautiful and has good restaurants. If you prefer sun with a quieter holiday the other months of the year are good too, especially spring and autumn.”
