The 12 best European cities for commuting to UK revealed and none of them are in France

The 12 best European cities to live in and commute to London have been revealed and none of them are in France.

With remote work becoming the norm more and more Brits are deciding to move abroad for a new experience while keeping their job in the UK and one removal company has now revealed the easiest cities to live in and still make regular trips home.

According to Kiwi Movers, Prague is the best commuting city, followed by Budapest and Warsaw.

But despite the high placings for Eastern European cities, those living in the Hague in the Netherlands will have a shorter commute to the UK than most people’s regular tube journeys to work with a flight to London taking just 55 minutes.

When ranking the cities, the removal company took into account a range of lifestyle factors, such as commute time and cost, rent cost per square foot and the local climate.

With the average rent for a one-bedroom flat in London now topping £1,200 a month with a monthly TfL zone one to four travel card adding £177 to living costs, the research found people could save up to £977 per month by moving to mainland Europe.

Cities that made up the rest of the top 12 were Barcelona, Berlin, Zagreb, Madrid, Milan, Lisbon, Vienna and Bruges.

Those looking to move to a hotter climate should head to Lisbon which sees an average temperature of 20.8C and a 68 percent annual average probability of sunshine.

While those looking to save money on rent should head to Prague, where a 70sqm, two-bedroom apartment costs an average of £243 per month.

The cheapest commutes can be found in Warsaw, Barcelona, Berlin and Milan, with a return flight to London costing less than £40 on average.

A worker commuting from Warsaw or Barcelona could feasibly make 10 trips to the UK a month and it would cost less than the monthly rail pass to get from the Buckinghamshire commuter town of Gerrards Cross to London.

The research comes after London-based social media manager Sam Cookney relocated to Barcelona in 2013 and saved a reported £339 per month on living costs.
