A Texas woman has been charged with allegedly luring two teens to their deaths via Instagram four years ago — thanks to the help of a confidential informant, police said.
Angie Morales, 21, was taken into custody by San Antonio police on Monday for the 2022 murders of Gregorio Ricardo Cordova-Mejia, 19, and his friend Angel Ray Garcia, 15, court records show.
Morales, then 17, allegedly used Instagram to message the youths and get them to go out to the Union Pines Apartment complex, where “individuals” working with the suspect robbed and shot the teenagers, KSAT reported.
Her arrest comes just a few weeks after the victims’ mothers made a public plea for help to catch those responsible for their sons’ deaths after nearly four years of waiting.
The families said they spent the last couple of years paying for billboard signs to spread attention to the case in hopes that any new lead might come up.
The SAPD said they had been actively investigating the case and had put out a notice on Crime Stoppers, asking for the public’s help as well.
Morales was ultimately arrested after police said they received information from a “confidential informant” about her alleged involvement.
A look into Cordova-Mejia’s phone revealed he was speaking with Morales on Instagram just minutes before his death on July 29, 2022.
The messages show that Morales had asked Cordova-Mejia to meet her at the apartment complex, telling him that she was “stepping out” and for him to wait for her.
Gunshots rang out just before 3 a.m., with officers finding both Cordova-Mejia and Garcia’s bodies at Building 28 of the complex, according to police.
Call records show that Morales’ phone was active in the area at the time of the murderers, according to Bexar County court records.
Morales, who denied her involvement in the incident, has been charged with the capital murder of multiple persons, with her bail set at $250,000.
