Tesco, Morrisons and Waitrose recall popular breakfast cereal | UK | News

A popular cereal sold at stores including Tesco, Morrisons and Waitrose has been urgently recalled over fears it poses a “possible health risk” to people with allergies. The product was found to contain oats and peanuts which are not mentioned on the label.

Around one in 50 children are thought to suffer from peanut allergies and oats can trigger symptoms in people who are sensitive to gluten, including those with coeliac disease. A notice issued by the Food Standards Agency said: “This product contains gluten making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to oats or gluten, or with coeliac disease and or an allergy to peanuts.”

The  recall applies to 400g packs of Cinnamon + Pecan Granola made by Spoon Cereals, with a best before date of May 22 or May 26, 2026.

The FSA said the manufacturer has been advised to contact allergy organisations to notify their members.

It added: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to oats or gluten or have coeliac disease and or an allergy to peanuts, do not eat it.

“Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”

Exposure to peanuts can cause an immune reaction in people with allergies, leading to symptoms such as a rash, swelling in the mouth or throat and digestive issues.

In the most severe cases it can lead to anaphylaxis, a life-threatening reaction needing immediate medical attention which may include use of an adrenaline auto-injector pen.

Rates of peanut allergies among children have been increasing in recent years.

Recent studies have shown that small daily doses of peanut allergen under close medical supervision can be used to desensitise sufferers.
