Storm Kathleen tracker LIVE: Met Office 'danger to life' warning as UK hit by 70mph winds

Storm Kathleen is set to bring a weekend of weather chaos to the UK this weekend, as parts of the country brace for torrential rain and heavy gusts of up to 70mph.

The Met Office has issued a rare “danger to life” weather warning for seven regions, lasting 14 hours from 8am until 10pm on Saturday, April 5.

The yellow alert is in place for Dumfries, Galloway, Lothian and Borders, Strathclyde, Wales, South West England, North West England, and Central Tayside, Fife and Northern Ireland.

Southerly winds are expected to gust quite widely to 50 to 60 mph on Saturday in Britain, while some exposed spots, particularly in Northern Ireland, will see gusts to 70 mph with large waves also likely.

In its warning, the Met Office warned that there could be “injuries and danger to life from flying debris”, while buildings could be damaged. Roads and bridges may be forced to close, while Storm Kathleen could cause long delays and cancellations on UK roads, railways, air and ferry routes.
