Sky users told to 'act now' or lose 10 popular channels today – check your TV now

“We will be closing the SD versions of all our TV channels on satellite – the closedown will take place on 8th January 2024. If you see a banner telling you to upgrade you need to act now,” the BBC said in a post on its website. “We are urging impacted homes to act now to avoid disappointment and loss of any BBC channels.”

Luckily, the number of people using ageing SD-only set-top boxes appears to be low with the BBC confirming that demand for its help scheme resources has been much lower than expected. “We believe the number of homes still using SD-only satellite equipment is now far lower than anticipated,” the BBC added.

Which channels are closing?

The SD channels that will be closing are as follows:

• BBC One SD

• BBC Two SD

• BBC Three SD

• BBC Four SD

• CBBC SD

• CBeebies SD

• BBC News SD

• BBC Scotland SD

• BBC ALBA SD

• BBC Parliament SD

If you are affected by today’s changes don’t panic. Sky is offering to switch things over with the firm saying customers can get a more modern Sky Q box for free.

“Sky TV customers can upgrade to Sky Q at no extra cost,” Sky explained. “Upgrade online, or call – we’d advise doing this as soon as possible to avoid long wait times. Your new box will be installed by one of our engineers on a date that suits you. You can then watch all the BBC channels in HD – including all local programmes.”

If you think you have an old Sky SD box don’t panic. Sky has confirmed that all customers will be able to upgrade to Sky Q for free. All they have to do is upgrade online or call this number 0333 759 5121.
