Shower silicone mould is ‘guaranteed to wipe off without scrubbing’ when using tested item

Black mould can be a persistent and unsightly problem in showers, especially in areas where silicone is used for sealing and caulking.

Not only does it look unappealing, but it can also pose health risks if left untreated.

Taking to the Mrs Hinch Army Facebook page, one “mortified” member anonymously shared their frustration with the mould that had built up on their shower silicone sealant and asked how to go about cleaning it.

They said: “I am mortified at the state of our shower room. The sealant is covered in mould and I’ve tried everything to clean it.

“I feel the only way to resolve it is to remove and replace, but I’m really not handy at all.

“Does anyone have any tips? Any disaster stories? What do I need to buy? Would be very grateful for anyone who can motivate me to get this done. Thank you.”

The group member shared a photo of the once bright white silicone sealant covered by black mould.

While many people in the comments section suggested using bleach, this household staple does not get rid of mould.

Bleach will only work to disguise the colour of the stains, but the mould will still remain.

A suggestion that gained a lot of attention was to use a product called Mould Magic.

According to their website, this product penetrates deep down into the surface, “eradicating all types of mould at the source” so it “cannot come back”.

Sharing a picture of the product, Kellie Fisher said: “Use Mould Magic, got the black mould out of my shower sealant no problem.”

Sara Burgess replied: “This stuff is amazing! Although it’s a bit pricey, the mould on your silicone is guaranteed to wipe off without scrubbing with this gel.”

A tube of Mould Magic can be picked up at Must Have Ideas for £12.99. this product has even revived glowing reviews on their website.

Hazel Graham said: “This product actually works. All mould around the bath on the sealant has gone. Tried all sorts of methods in the past but have not had very much success. Bath looks new again. Recommend this to anyone with a mould problem, it really does work.”

Gillian Hartley wrote: “Miracle mould gel is what it says! Miracle stuff which removed mould on sealant round the bath so easily. Have tried all sorts with lots of scrubbing and never got rid of it but this works with no effort.”

To use this, simply squeeze the product onto the surface, wait a few seconds, and then give it a wipe.
