Russian forces wipe out two US-made HIMARS in Ukraine in fresh blow to artillery

Russia released a new video showing the destruction of two vital US-made artillery systems in Ukraine in another blow to the country’s firepower.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense posted the video to Telegram, which appeared to show strikes on two High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS).

The caption below the video read “the destruction of two US-made HIMARS,” but little other detail is known at this time.

This is not the first time Russia has claimed to have destroyed Ukraine-operated HIMARS, with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu claiming in March that six had been destroyed since the beginning of the year.

The US has so far provided Ukraine with 39 of the rocket launchers to Ukraine, which have been used since 2022 to fire long-range Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS).

They have proven to be vital for Ukraine’s war effort, highly effective in thwarting Russian attacks and launching devastating strikes.

Since Ukraine first recieved HIMARS from the US, many videos have surfaced showing attacks of vital Russian assets using the rocket launchers.

Ukrainian forces have reportedly carried out multiple strikes in areas with high concentrations of Russian troops using HIMARS.

In February, a Ukrainian official confirmed the deaths of tens of Russian soldiers after a fatal strike on a Russian training ground in Volnovakha, Donetsk using the US-made systems.

DON’T MISS:

Ukraine relies heavily on Western aid to maintain its supplies, particularly from the US, who have provided rocket launchers, artillery systems, and ammunition.

The latest tranche of aid to Ukraine, a $61 billion (£48 billion) bill signed into law by Joe Biden last week, will include more ammunition for HIMARS, according to the Department of Defense.

As a result, Russia has reportedly changed its war tactics by locating Ukrainian assets more quickly so that there is no time to relocate them before a strike.
