Sadiq Khan humiliated as eight ULEZ cameras cut down by vigilantes

Eight traffic lights with ULEZ cameras attached to them were chopped down during an overnight spate of vigilante attacks. Police have confirmed they are investigating after the cameras were felled in the early hours of Monday morning in Chislehurst in Bromley, south London.

Local councillors suspect the vandalism is the work of “anti-ULEZ” vigilantes, known as Blade Runners, with the culprits thought to have used angle grinders to bring the whole traffic lights to the ground.

A Met Police spokesman told the Express officers were investigating four separate incidents and are working to see if they are linked.

He said: “We continue to take criminal damage to ULEZ cameras seriously.

“Where there are possible lines of enquiry, local investigators will follow up using a range of investigative approaches including CCTV trawls, witness searches and an assessment of forensic opportunities.”

The incidents took place in Baring Road, Marvels Lane, Bromley Road and Southend Lane.

Local councillor Alison Stammers of the Chislehurst Matters party said this was the first time she had seen vandals cut down entire traffic lights, but added that the cameras had been vandalised previously.

She told the Telegraph: “It’s clearly anti-ULEZ because all the lights had ULEZ cameras on them.

“They’ve all used some sort of angle grinder by the looks of it. They’ve just cut straight through them.

“Obviously they’ve been careful not to cut through the wiring mechanism in the middle.”

So far there have been no arrests in connection with the incident with any witnesses are asked to call police on 101 quoting CAD 821/15Jan.
