Sadiq Khan heckled by furious audience members as he delivers victory speech

Sadiq Khan was booed as he kicked off his victory speech after winning a third term as Mayor of London.

The Labour politician faced heckles from some people gathered in the audience as he began to deliver his address at City Hall after the results were declared.

Meanwhile Britain First candidate Nick Scanlon shouted “Khan killed London” before walking off the stage where all

Speaking at City Hall, Mr Khan said: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart, thank you London.”

At that point, the Labour politician was interrupted by the booes and heckles.

The crowd was warned that security would remove people who disrupt the speeches.

Incumbent mayor Mr Khan beat his nearest rival, Tory candidate Susan Hall, in a contest beset by criticism of his decision to expand London’s ultra low emission zone.

He secured just over 1,088,000 votes, a majority of some 275,000 over Ms Hall, who received just under 813,000 votes.

Mr Khan fought a re-election campaign on promises to end rough sleeping in the capital by 2030, and to take further steps to curtail air pollution and climate change.

Runner-up Ms Hall’s key pledge was to roll back the Ulez expansion which the Labour mayor began last August, a measure she said was part of a “war on motorists”.
