Russia's prized £50m warship Sergei Kotov sunk by Ukraine in latest Black Sea victory


Ukrainian special forces successfully sunk a $50m Russian warship, the Sergei Kotov, in the Black Sea, as announced by Ukraine’s defence intelligence directorate on Tuesday morning.

According to reports from Ukraine’s defence intelligence directorate, the operation took place during the night of March 4-5, 2024.

The special unit of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, known as ‘Group 13’, carried out the attack on the patrol ship of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation, the Sergei Kotov.

The attack was executed using Magura V5 naval drones, which inflicted significant damage on the Russian ship.

The Sergei Kotov, a ship of project 22160, sustained damage to its stern, right, and left sides.

The vessel also suffered from fire damage during the operation. The incident occurred in the territorial waters of Ukraine, near the Kerch Strait.

The defence intelligence directorate further stated that the cost of the sunken ship is estimated to be around 65 million dollars.
