Prince William made an unexpected gesture alongside Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that left royal fans “astonished” after their grandmother Queen Elizabeth passed away, a new book has revealed.
William and his wife Princess Kate were reunited with the Sussexes following the family’s feud on a walkabout in Windsor, where they greeted members of the public who had come to express their grief at the Queen’s death.
However, one of his advisers revealed to the Daily Mail that their appearance together had been William’s idea, explaining: “Crowds leaving flowers by the Cambridge Gate on Windsor’s Long Walk were astonished to see a black Land Rover pull up containing both the Waleses and the Sussexes.
“Prince William was at the wheel. It was very much William’s idea. He had organised it in about two hours flat. He had been giving it a lot of thought and he said: ‘I know it’s awkward but isn’t it right in the context of my grandmother’s death?’
“I know he asked a couple of other people, too.”
The move came as a surprise given that the two brothers had barely been on speaking terms, and their relationship suffered a further knock the following year due to the publication of Harry’s tell-all memoir Spare.
