Royal Family LIVE: King Charles knights Justin Welby for role in Coronation

King Charles is knighting the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby for his role in the Coronation earlier this year.

The Most Reverend Welby, 67, will be admitted to the Royal Victorian Order and made a Knight Commander of the Order (GCVO) for his services to the Royal Family.

This is only the second time in history that a current leader of the Church of England has held the title of Knight Commander. The last time the Archbishop of Canterbury received the honour was Geoffrey Fisher after he crowned the late Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

Justin Welby is among a wave of people who have been given honours for their roles and efforts in 2023. The Dean of Westminster Abbey, David Michael Hoyle, is set to become an LVO, a lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order.
