Remove silicone sealant mould fast with item cleaners ‘swear works better than bleach’

Mould tends to be attracted to silicone sealants, especially in bathrooms and around windows.

Black mould needs moisture and humidity to thrive and therefore a bathroom, where the water will just roll off the sealant, is the perfect breeding ground.

If the sealant isn’t cleaned regularly this will cause the black mould to appear and will continue to spread until households take action.

Struggling with a buildup of mould along the silicone sealant on the base of their shower, one cleaning enthusiast posted a picture of a popular mould remover product to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page anonymously to ask if it is effective and safe to use.

They said: “Has anyone used this product? I want to get rid of some mould on the silicone sealant around the base of my shower. Will it damage the sealant?”

The product in question is the Cillit Bang Black Mould Remover. The brand claims that this removes 100 percent of mould from most surfaces in just a few seconds.

The post received over 150 responses with the majority raving about how well this product works.

Andriana Polakova wrote: “Yes! The best product ever for mould. I do mine and am very happy with it.”

Abhishek Uttar said: “Works wonders. Spray and leave for 10 minutes and then wipe.”

Amy Shickle claimed: “I’ve used it and my sealant was totally fine. It’s fantastic stuff. It sorted my bathroom out no bother.”

Susan Harwood wrote: “It’s the best thing to use, swear it works better than bleach.”

Vicki Melling said: “We use this, it’s fantastic. Just spray on and leave no need to scrub.”

The Cillit Bang Black Mould Remover spray retails for £3.50 both at Amazon and Tesco.

The only downside cleaning fans have found with the product is that it does have a potent smell, so windows will need to be open when using this spray.

Tanya Smith wrote: “I used this on my bathroom tiles yesterday actually and it’s done a fantastic job! [However] do it with the window open.”

Charmine Simmons said: “It’s the only product I use for the mould in my bathroom and I’ve tried loads of others – it’s the best. The smell can be a little strong so make sure the window is open when you use it.”

Sile Kersey noted: “This stuff is amazing. Won’t damage the sealant, but wear a mask maybe! It’s very strong.”
