Queen Camilla’s official title is Queen Consort, which equates to “wife of the monarch,” but the “consort” has been dropped, rather seamlessly, like it was never there.
Royally Obsessed co-hosts Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie discuss the Queen — and how both she and her title have evolved — in the latest episode of their beloved podcast.
Ms Fiorito says of Camila: “It’s really been a progression, because it went from Princess Consort, which is what I think is what they said she’d originally be called, to Queen Consort, and finally, for ease of use, for ease of speech, for media, just Queen now.”
Ms Bowie chimes in, saying, “It’s shocking, how quickly, we kind of all had to get in line behind this. But, I think with Queen Elizabeth giving her blessing, this was the only way this would’ve really gotten through.”

“Queen Consort” is a little clunky, as Fiorito suggests, but Bowie believes the change in title goes beyond that.
Bowie says: “I think it had so much meaning to Charles at the time, in particular, as well as Camilla. It had been such a long game and they had been through so much.”
Queen or Queen Consort, Bowie gives her credit for rising ot the occasion: “I feel like on the heels of Camilla take on solo engagements daily last week, this was when we thought Charles was fully on the mend, but Kate was still out of commission until after Easter, and still is, to see Camilla step up, keep calm and carry on, and knowing what she’s also managing with her own kind of reactions and mental health over what’s going on with her husband.”
