Queen Camilla has a secret jewellery hack – as the senior royal dons beautiful earrings despite never having had her ears pierced.
But this doesn’t stop the Queen from having a decadent collection of gorgeous drop earrings.
A firm favourite of Camilla’s appears to be a pair of pearl drop earrings with sapphire and ruby detailing – which she wore during a recent engagement to the City of London Livery Company on February 13.
Ben Roberts, Managing Director of Clogau and expert in royal jewellery, looks at the earrings repeatedly worn by the Queen.
Mr Roberts said: “These decadent earrings are reminiscent of the Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings that Queen Elizabeth II wore on the official Coronation stamp, and it could be that these are worn as a respectful nod to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
“The Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings were initially a wedding present to Queen Elizabeth II in 1947 from the ruler of Bahrain.”
He added: “Camilla is always known to take the classic approach to each trend and unashamedly stamps her own style onto the jewellery she wears.
“Few people know that the earrings she wears are actually clip-on earrings. In an interview with British Vogue, Camilla revealed that she never wanted to pierce her ears saying ‘[The grandchildren] will try to persuade me, but nothing’s going to pierce my ears’.”
Speaking of how Camilla could inspire a summer earring trend, he added: “We could now see a resurgence in traditional drop style earrings and we are already seeing pearls as a major trend for jewellery this summer.”
Queen Camilla famously spoke to Vogue in 2022, commenting on her decision to not have her ears pierced.
Speaking of her two eldest granddaughters, she said: “The girls are beginning to get into clothes and make-up and, you know, it’s rather frightening when you see them, coming out with pierced ears and a lot of new make-up and funny-coloured hair and stuff.”
When asked whehter she would get her own ears pierced, she revealed: “They are not going to be!”
Camilla revealed that her granddaughters do often “persuade” her to get her ears pierced – but stood her ground stating that that will not happen.
For the interview, which occurred prior to her 75th birthday in July 2022, she shared: “No, I’m not going to give it to myself for a 75th birthday present.”
Much like Camilla, Princess Beatrice also famously does not have her ears pierced.
Also following in Camilla’s way, Beatrice is often spotted wearing a pair of clip-on earrings.
