Prince William's major boost as his Earthshot prize has record number of nominations

Prince William has received a major boost with his environmental initiative, Earthshot Prize.

It has been revealed that Earthshot Prize has had a record number of nominations this year – which is equal to more than double of any other year.

The Royal Foundation and William launched Earthshot Prize in 2020 and aims to search for and scale innovative solutions to the world’s greatest environmental challenges.

Each year, the winners are selected by the Earthshot Prize Council, which includes William himself.

It also poses itself as being the most prestigious global prize for the environment in history.

Earthshot has this year received 2,429 nominations from 432 official nominators. All nominations came from a total of 139 countries.

Chris Large, who is the Director of Portfolio and Prize, said: The response to this year’s nomination period proves that the world doesn’t have an innovation problem – we have a scaling problem The ideas are out there, generated by talented people from diverse corners of the planet.

“The challenge is rapidly developing, testing, funding, and adopting those solutions, with a role for government, business and the public alike.

“This is where The Earthshot Prize comes in. Using our significant spotlight and extensive network, we help speed solutions to scale. We can’t wait to get to know and support many of this year’s nominees over the next months and beyond.”

This year’s Earthshot prize will take place in Cape Town in November, but Kensington Palace have yet to confirm whether William will attend.

William attended last year’s awards event in Singapore alone, as Kate remained at the couple’s family home in Windsor with their three children.

It was confirmed that Kate wanted to stay at home to support their son Prince George, 10, during some school exams.
