Prince William leaps ahead of Meghan Markle in new poll as Firm's popularity laid bare

Prince William is favoured by so many more people in Great Britain than Meghan Markle that she would need a 100 point swing in her net favourability rating to catch up, a new poll has found.

YouGov surveyed 2053 British adults on February 6 and 7, with their results showing that the Prince of Wales was liked by 74 percent and disliked by 17 percent of those surveyed, giving him a net favourability rating of plus 57.

It was a less rosy picture for the Duchess of Sussex, who was liked by 23 percent and disliked by 66 percent, leaving her with a rating of minus 43.

This means that Meghan’s rating would have to go up by around 100 points, with more people liking her and less people disliking her, before she reached the same level of popularity as William.

The Sussexes have lost popularity and status in the UK after they made the decision to quit royal life and move to the US in 2020, with them being estranged from the Firm ever since.

Reflecting this chnage in feeling over the years also was Prince Harry’s rating of minus 35, as 28 percent of those surveyed liked him while 63 percent disliked him.

Princess Kate remained popular, although not quite as popular as William, as she was viewed positively by 70 percent and negatively by 16 percent, giving her plus 54.

Kate and William are likely to attract sympathy after it was revealed last month that she had undergone major abdominal surgery and was taking extended time out from royal duties to recover.

The Prince of Wales also took some time off to take care of his wife and their young family, however he was back to work last week at a charity gala for the London Air Ambulance attended by Tom Cruise.

The Duke of Sussex made a surprise appearance in the UK in the same week after hearing that his father King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer.

It was a fleeting visit for Harry, who landed at Heathrow on Tuesday afternoon but flew back out to California 25 hours later after seeing the King for less than 45 minutes.

Meghan did not travel with him, as she remained at home in Montecito with their two children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, who have not seen their grandfather in almost two years.

Harry may be back in London in a matter of weeks to attend a special service marking 10 years of the Invictus Games at St Paul’s Cathedral.

It is not known if this time he will bring his family with him or if he will make time to see the King and reconcile with the rest of the royals.
