Prince Harry's nine-word reply after Prince William claimed he 'didn't want to be King'

Prince Harry is said to have had a very upfront response after Prince William previously said that he “didn’t want to be King”.

Since the day he was born in June 1982, William’s fate to become King has been mapped out for him.

He knew about his future life from a very early age – with his own son Prince George now aware of the same fate.

Although always destined for a very different life, William’s younger brotherHarry once claimed that he would be up for the role if William wasn’t.

It has previously been claimed that William had often confided in his mother, telling her that he “didn’t want” to become King. In response to his brother, Harry is said to have replied: “If you don’t want the job, I’ll have it.”

According to royal expert Robert Jobson, the late Princess Diana is said to have given her youngest son a special nickname in response to his reply – Harry GKH, or Good King Harry. Speaking on the Channel 5 programme, ‘William and Harry: Princes at War’, he said: “She used to refer to Harry as GKH (Good King Harry) because she thought he’d probably be better equipped for the role in the future than Harry.”

TV broadcaster Jeremy Paxman also claimed that Diana once spoke about her sons’ future during a lunch meeting – stating that William wasn’t keen on his fate.

During her Panorama interview with Martin Bashir in 1995, Diana was asked whether the title should go straight to William, to which she responded: “Well, then you have to see that William’s very young at the moment, so you don’t want a burden like that to be put on his shoulders at such an age. So I can’t answer that question.”

Prince Harry stepped down as a senior royal in 2020. The 39-year-old now lives in the US with wife Meghan Markle and their two children – Prince Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two.

Prince William is currently taking time away from royal duties after Princess Kate remains in hhospital after planned abdominal surgery earlier this month. The royal heir is currently focusing on the couple’s three children – Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five.
