Prince Harry's 'Legend of Aviation' award slammed as an 'insult' to Prince Philip's legacy

Prince Harry’s upcoming ‘Legend of Aviation’ award has sparked controversy, with one columnist suggesting it would have his late grandfather, Prince Philip, “rotating in his grave”.

The Duke of Sussex is set to be honoured at the 21st annual Living Legends of Aviation awards for his contribution to aviation and aerospace during his time as a British Army veteran and pilot.

However, Ephraim Hardcastle, speaking to the MailOnline, criticised the decision, stating: “Harry’s Living Legends of Aviation awards on Friday would have his grandfather Philip rotating in his grave.

“He gained his RAF wings in 1953, flew for 44 years, and clocked up nearly 6,000 hours in more than 60 types of plane.”

He also quoted Kensington councillor Emma Dent Coad’s sardonic observation: “Harry can’t actually fly a helicopter he just sits there going, ‘Vroom vroom’.”

Despite their controversial 2022 Netflix docuseries being a hit in 2023, the Sussexes failed to snag an Emmy nod.

Reacting to the snub, PR expert Lynn Carratt told The Mirror: “Meghan and Harry may feel slightly wounded by not receiving an Emmy Nomination.

“Despite their Harry and Meghan docuseries becoming a record for the biggest debut for a Netflix documentary, reaching more than 28 million households, but they were up against some tough competition for nominations.”
