Prince Harry's LA workout routine inspired by Meghan Markle – from brutal HIIT to Pilates

Prince Harry is rumoured to be indulging in a new workout routine inspired by his life in California, as a personal trainer believes he may have swapped rugby and polo for yoga and Pilates.

The Duke of Sussex, who has always kept fit due to his love of sport and military background, was snapped walking near his home in Montecito at the weekend, and his legs appeared to look more toned as sported a pair of shorts, beanie and puffer jacket.

His wife Meghan Markle is a known yoga devotee, as her mother Doria Ragland has worked as a yoga instructor and got Meghan into it from a young age.

Personal trainer Lewis Paris gave an insight into Harry’s new exercise regime, which he believes consists of running two or three times a week, followed by two or three strength sessions, one focused on HIIT and the other concentrating on the whole body.

He added that it is also likely the Duke practices yoga and Pilates regularly, as he told the Daily Mail: “Shaping the legs takes more effort than just losing the weight, doing some form of strength training will help to form the legs you desire.

“Pilates can help with core strength, posture development and mobility. So Prince Harry is probably engaging in a weekly training routine of doing it three to five times per week to build muscle, maintain weight and keep fit.

“With Harry’s military background, he will be benefiting from sticking to a routine and maintaining discipline and focus to get into shape and then to maintain his physique.”

On a video call with Serena Williams and Alexi Robichaux, hosted for the latter’s BetterUp mental health organisation, Harry reveals he gets his exercise in while his son Prince Archie is at school and his daughter Princesss Lilibet is napping.

During the chat Harry also touched on his “mental fitness” routine, which consists of daily meditation as an important part of his self-care.

Discussing his mental health journey, Harry said: “I know that I need to meditate every single day. Once you have to show up for other people, the self-care is the first thing to drop away.”

He also encouraged people to step “outside their bubble” in order to better understand their own mental health, explaining: “To find someone outside your bubble who has a different perspective. You might not always like what they say. To have different points of view in your life, and friends who do not worry about pushing back on what you feel, to encourage you to see it more clearly.”
