Prince Harry told 'it’s not about the royals' after couple decline to attend pal’s wedding

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been told it’s “not about them” after turning down an invitation to their pal’s royal wedding amid soaring tensions with the Firm.

The Sun’s Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson said the pair would likely have to sit at a table with other members of the Royal Family if they were to attend the wedding of Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster.

Grosvenor is known to be one of Prince Harry’s long-time friends and is godfather to his son, Prince Archie.

Speaking about the wedding Sussexes’ decision to turn down the invitation, Wilkinson said: “It’s someone’s wedding. It’s someone’s big day. I don’t care if Harry’s there.

Host Sarah Hewson chimed in: “It’s not about the royals.”

Wilkinson added: “I don’t care if Harry goes or not.”

The Sussexes reportedly turned down an invite to the “society wedding of the year” to avoid a potentially “awkward” run-in with the Royal Family, a source close to the Sussexes claimed.

“Harry actually got a ‘save the date’ card a few months ago but called Hugh and said it would be too awkward if he and Meghan Markle attended, so he made his apologies and Hugh understood,” a source told Page Six.

If Harry and Meghan were to attend the wedding, it would be the first time the Duchess of Sussex reunited with the Royal Family since the late Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022.

The lavish wedding ceremony is set to be held at Chester Cathedral on June 7 when the Duke of Westminster will be exchanging vows with his long-time partner Olivia Henson.
