Prince Harry shocked the nation with the news he was releasing a memoir in July 2021 – with the book then released 18 months later on January 10, 2023.

Wednesday marked one whole year since the bombshell memoir’s release, which contained many claims that could have reaped havoc for certain family members and the Firm’s reputation.

The book delved into many areas of Harry’s life, from how he felt at the time of his late mother’s death to his current reality as a doting husband and father.

Harry also went into detail about a physical fight that he had with his elder brother Prince William who, according to the former royal, knocked him to the ground after reportedly calling his wife Meghan Markle “rude” and “difficult”.

Here Express.co.uk looks into five questions from the book that still appear to remain unanswered – 12 months on.

Did the Royal Family try to prevent Spare from being released?

It was previously reported that Prince Harry felt there would be “no way back” if he were to release his memoir when his late Grandmother was still alive.

It has been suggested that, after visiting the UK, Harry was having second thoughts about releasing Spare.

A source who worked on Spare told The Times: “The book was all ready to go but after visiting his grandmother, [Harry] had second thoughts.”

The source added: “That was such a dark day. Everyone had been working so hard on this project in utmost secrecy – and with the expectation this would turn out to be one of the biggest and most historic books we would ever get to publish. And then, just after Harry’s last trip to London, the boss walked in and said ‘He’s pulled it. He doesn’t want to do it.’”

They added: “The rumour was that during the visit it was made clear to him that if he published while the Queen was still alive there would be no way back. Obviously that all changed with the monarch’s death in September.”

Prince Harry revealed in Spare that he and William had got into an explosive row in 2019.

The confrontation reportedly included William making stern words about Harry’s wife – which included referring to Meghan as “rude” and “difficult”.

Harry revealed that William had “knocked him to the ground”, and wrote: “[William] grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and… knocked me to the floor”.

The pair are also said to have argued over their position in the line of succession. But the true details of the arguments have not been elaborated on by either brother.

Have Meghan and Kate attempted to patch things up?

According to Harry’s book, Kate and Meghan fell out after a phone call about wedding rehearsals.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex got married in Windsor in May 2018 – less than one month after the birth of Prince Louis.

Harry revealed that Meghan had told Kate that she must have “baby brain” – something that reportedly wasn’t taken very well by Kate.

“We are not close enough for you to talk about my hormones,” Kate allegedly said.

In the excerpt, the Duke of Sussex claims that William pointed his finger at Meghan, saying that she made a “rude” comment that was not appropriate in Britain. In response, Meghan told her brother-in-law to “take your finger out of my face.”

It’s not known whether Meghan apologised or if the two women have since patched things up.

Harry was widely criticised after the book aired some comments regarding his 10-year career in the military.

In his decade-long stint, Harry completed tours of Afghanistan – once in 2007 to 2008 and another in 2012 to 2013.

Whilst working as an Apache helicopter pilot, Harry revealed that this had resulted in numerous Taliban deaths.

He claimed that he did not think of the 25 deaths as “people” but as “chess pieces” that had to be removed from the board.

Will Harry or Meghan release any more books?

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly signed a four-book deal with Penguin Random House in 2021.

With the success of Spare, many experts have wondered whether Meghan could follow suit.

A source previously spoke to OK! and said: “She fully intends to write this book and leave no stone unturned.

“It’s just a question of timing and how long she wishes to hold out in order to preserve what’s left of her and Harry’s relationship with King Charles.”

Although nothing has ever been confirmed, the source claims that the “process is already underway”.
