Prince Harry 'declined' royal reunion to avoid 'awkward' encounters as rift grows

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly declined to attend the “society wedding of the year” to avoid any awkward confrontations with Prince William and Princess Kate.

Prince Harry allegedly recieved the invitation but felt so strongly he and Meghan could not attend that he personally phoned the groom, Hugh Grosvenor, to explain why they would not be attending.

The wedding is taking place next year and, amid the growing royal rift, Harry thought it best not to attend, despite being friends with Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster, for years and making him Prince Archie’s godfather.

An insider told the Page Six: “Harry actually got a ‘save the date’ card a few months ago but called Hugh and said it would be too awkward if he and Meghan Markle attended, so he made his apologies and Hugh understood.”

If the couple attended, it would be the first time Meghan and Kate ruinted since the Queen’s funeral in September 2022. But this comes at a time when Meghan is reportedly saying she never wants to return to the UK.

Kate and Meghan have not mended their relationship since Meghan and Harry stepped away from the Royal Family in 2020, with Omid Scobie’s new book Endgame claiming they haven’t spoken to each other since 2019.

The Duke of Westminster is close personal friends with both of the brothers, and so Harry declining an invitation to his wedding may come as a shock.

They are such good friends, in fact, that he’s godfather to both of the brother’s sons and was in attendance for Meghan and Harry’s wedding in 2018.

The wedding is set for June 7 in Chester Cathedral, and invitations have already been sent out to a list of other royals, including King Charles and Queen Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales.

It appears clear that Harry and Meghan will not be in attendance, but other sources are claiming otherwise. Some reports have said the couple never even reiceved an invitation.

The Times reported that the Duke of Westminster wants “to avoid a family clash in the House of Windsor” and so deliberately did not invite Harry and Meghan.
