Prince Harry and Meghan Markle accused of using 'convenient excuse' to avoid UK return

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are using concerns over their security as a “convenient excuse” to put off returning to the UK, according to a royal watcher.

Speaking to GBN America, American journalist Lee Cohen claimed the royal couple are avoiding coming back to the country over the possibility of an “ugly” reception from the public.

The Sussexes stepped down as senior working royals in 2020 before moving to the US but have since made several bombshell claims against the Royal Family.

Cohen said: “Harry should make the trip without Meghan.

“Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Meghan has only returned to the UK on scant occasions, including Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

“However, she did not attend the King’s Coronation in 2023. Harry attended alone and many Britons share the opinion with me that they would be thrilled to have seen the back of her after the insults to their country and beloved institutions.”

High Court Judge Peter Lane said the February 2020 decision to provide “bespoke” security to the Duke of Sussex on an as-needed basis wasn’t unlawful, irrational or unjustified.

“Insofar as the case-by-case approach may otherwise have caused difficulties, they have not been shown to be such as to overcome the high hurdle so as to render the decision-making irrational,” Lane wrote in the 51-page ruling that was censored throughout to protect identities and security arrangements for Harry and other public figures.

Harry said he planned to appeal the ruling and keep challenging the decision made by the group known by the acronym of its former name, the Royal and VIP Executive Committee, or RAVEC, a spokesperson said.

Harry claimed in the lawsuit that he and his family were endangered when visiting the UK because of hostility toward him and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, on social media and relentless hounding by news media.
