Princess Edward is set to carry out two important royal duties this week after a short break, as his brother King Charles returned to Sandringham following his cancer diagnosis.
The Duke of Edinburgh is scheduled to attend the events on Thursday, Feburary 8 – a talent showcase at The Savoy Hotel in central London as patron of the Production Guild of Great Britain and a reception at the Institute of Physics in north London.
Last month, the Duke spent a week overseas beginning in South Africa to visit Pretoria and meet animal conservation groups. He then travelled on to St Helena on January 23 to spend four days in the subtropical British Overseas Territory, based in the South Atlantic Ocean.
On the last day of the working trip, the Duke made a visit to Ascension Island and its government said the day was for celebrating “our island’s heritage, unique biodiversity, and the incredible efforts of our community volunteers”.
Prince Edward took a mini absence from public duties after the overseas trip and the news left royal fans worried. One user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Hopefully he just needs a bit of rest.”
Another one said: “HRH The Duke Of Edinburgh has done back-to-back engagements plus has been flying all over the world. Good on him for having a break. Rest up sir and enjoy your break.”
Meanwhile, Princess Anne and Prince William have both been conducting royal engagements today, with Prince William returning to work after taking a step back to look after his wife following her discharge from hospital for pre-planned abdominal surgery.
King Charles’s vision of a slimmed-down monarchy became the main point of discussions recently after the latest health bombshells involving himself and the Princess of Wales, which left only a handful of royals available to carry out engagements.
The reigning monarch travelled from London to Sandringham by helicopter with Queen Camilla as he undergoes treatment for his cancer diagnosis.
Charles has already commenced “a schedule of regular treatments” to battle cancer under the supervision of his specialist team of doctors. The King is said to be “wholly positive about his treatment” and grateful that medics caught it early.
