POLL: Should Shamima Begum ever be allowed back into the UK?

After Shamima Begum lost her appeal over the decision to revoke her British citizenship, the Express is asking readers to have their say on whether they feel she should be allowed to return to the UK.

This morning (February 23) the British-born former Jihadi bride, who ran away to join ISIS aged just 15, lost her case at the Court of Appeal, which ruled she was lawfully deprived of her British citizenship.

The ruling means she remains in Syria with no chance of returning to the UK, unless she successfully appeals to the Supreme Court or European Court of Human Rights, with the latter extremely unlikely to succeed.

The British government revoked her citizenship in February 2019 on national security grounds shortly after she was found in a Syrian refugee camp, nine years after she had first travelled there.

Last year Ms Begum lost a challenge against the decision at the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC).

However, her lawyers brought an unsuccessful bid to overturn that decision at the Court of Appeal, which the Home Office opposed.

But the decision to revoke Ms Begum’s citizenship has prompted controversy among some, with women’s rights campaigner Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu accusing the government of “hypocrisy” over the decision saying she “married the wrong terrorist”.

She said she did not “condone” Ms Begum’s actions but said her potential crimes should go through the British justice system.

Do you believe Ms Begum should be allowed to return to the UK? Have your say in the poll below.
