New UK weather maps show Britain hit by 641-mile wall of rain and snow

Britain is set to be battered by a huge wall of rain and snow as the latest weather maps have turned rainbow-coloured. Maps from WXCharts show that areas ranging from Inverness to down south Plymouth will witness unsettled weather conditions next week.

The 641-mile area will be covered with rain and snow days after the Met Office issues several warnings of ice and snow in certain areas of the UK.

Latest maps indicate that the weather pattern will take a shift from March 13 and by the end of March 14, most parts of the country will see rain showers with parts of Scotland covered with snow.

Areas such as Inverness and Wick could continue to face some more wintry days as maps suggest some snow accumulation in those areas.

As much as 10cm (4in) could be on the ground in northern England by midday, while 7cm is likely in some central and northern parts of Scotland.

However, the temperature levels will stay around average at this time of the year for most parts of the country, maps suggest.

Mercury levels are likely to hover around 5-6C during the next week with areas like Newcastle, London, Cardiff and Birmingham to face 10C.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast between March 11 and 20 states: “Following unsettled weather for many over the preceding weekend, next week will initially see a gradual improvement in conditions from the west as drier, brighter weather and lighter winds slowly arrives.

“Cloudier conditions with some showers in the east are likely to persist for a time before this occurs. Much of the period thereafter will see a battle between cloud and rain arriving from the Atlantic, and drier, more settled conditions trying to extend westwards from the nearby continent.

“However, the most likely scenario is that “south-shifted” Atlantic weather systems will tend to dominate, bringing periods of mild, cloudy, and wet weather across many southern and eastern areas in particular, whilst northwestern areas fare best in terms of settled weather.

“Temperatures overall are likely to be around the seasonal average.”

Today:

Rather cloudy across some eastern and northeastern areas with patchy rain. Any early fog and frost clearing elsewhere to leave sunny spells, though some showers developing, mainly across parts of southern England and Wales. Rather breezy.

Tonight:

Becoming rather cloudy in the north with patchy rain. Showers dying out elsewhere to leave a mostly dry night with clear spells. Breezy, with patchy frost and some hill fog.

Friday:

Most places will have a dry day with some bright or sunny spells, the best of which are likely across southern England and western Scotland. Feeling chilly in brisk winds.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Generally turning more unsettled. Often cloudy with some outbreaks of rain, becoming locally heavy. Some snow over the Scottish mountains. Continuing to feel rather cold in fresh, locally strong winds.
