David Beckham and King Charles’s latest interaction has sparked some intrigue among fans as the football legend appeared to thank the monarch for a gift. David, 50, was at the opening day of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show on Monday and met up with King Charles, 76, and Queen Camilla, 77, outside the Highgrove stand.
After exchanging pleasantries, David could be heard thanking the King for something. The monarch then replied: “You got it, didn’t you?”
David, who recently turned 50, said: “It was incredible, thank you, it was very kind.” Camilla then said: “Nice to see you again, glad you got the roses.”
The King sending David what seems to be a birthday gift shows the growing closeness between the pair, with the retired footballer being an ambassador of the King’s Foundation.
David is also believed to be close with the King’s eldest son Prince William, 42, and was also once friends with the King’s youngest son Prince Harry, 40, before a rumoured falling out.
The sight of David and the King may be hard for Harry to see, especially as he claimed earlier this month that his father “won’t speak” to him.
It is believed David was at the show yesterday to tease an upcoming project with the King’s Foundation, which will aim to encourage young people to consider careers in horticulture.
Wearing a new rose named in honour of the monarch in his buttonhole, the former England football captain agreed with Camilla that the bloom was “so beautiful”.
The King’s Rose is showing at Chelsea for the first time, with all sales going to support the King’s Foundation Fans have shown some intrigue and excitement since the meeting between David and Their Majesties yesterday was caught on camera.
One royal fan wrote on X: “Lovely to see.”
Another said: “Like that the King and Queen sent David a birthday present.”
